Can it live up to the hype? We check out the Vinyes Ocults Malbec available at Costco for just $10.
100% Malbec from Tunuyan, Mendoza, Argentina. The wine is aged 12 months in French and American oak, 70% second use barrels and 30% third use.
The Vinyes Ocults Malbec normally sells for around $16 but we found it for just $9.99 at Costco. It is imported by Tri-Vin Imports.

Well, here's something that grabs your attention, a wine with two 94 point ratings (Vinous and Descorchados) for just $9.99 at Costco. Surprising, and perhaps a bit suspect when you see that the normally point happy James Suckling actually rates this one a couple points lower at 92, but at the excellent Costco price, we figured this was definitely worth checking out.
The 2019 Vinyes Ocults Malbec opens with a pleasing aroma full of grapey, ripe fruit, a touch of a pleasant herbal component and licorice and spice.
Tasting the wine reveals a smooth and a bit chewy mouthfeel plus nice dark fruit and good touches of spice. Those 94 points are tasting awfully suspect to me.
It ends dry and long and definitely needs some air to be at its best. While it's rather simple, it still offers good taste for just $10. I can't score it anywhere close to 94 points, however.
