Duorum Douro Colheita- Tannic and DeliciousOur next Costco QPR Champ, the Duorum Douro Colheita, is a seriously good red blend.

40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Touriga Franca and 20% Tinta Roriz from Douro, Portugal. The wine is aged for 12 months in 225L and 300L French and American oak barrels and has residual sugar of 4.0 g/L.

The Duorum Douro Colheita has an SRP of $20 and is available for $16.99 at Costco and closer to $20 elsewhere. Imported by Winebow. 100,000 bottles produced.

From the bottle:

Duorum, meaning “from two”, represents the merging of Portugal’s famous pioneer winemakers, Joao Portugal Ramos and Jose Maria Soares Franco. Duorum expresses the “terroir” of this fantastic region. 40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz, aromas of rip dark fruits and exotic spices. Full bodied, well balanced with firm and ripe tannins and a velvety finish.

13.5% Alcohol

This is a wine that is full of twos. It’s not just the winemakers as noted on the label, but it also comes from two different vineyards that are at two different altitudes and in two different Douro subregions. How does this combination of pairs work? Let’s find out.

The 2013 Duorum Douro Colheita begins with a very enticing aroma chocked full of black cherries, blackberries, violets, plums and spice. Tasting the wine shows lots of dark, rich fruit that is full of fabulous spicy overtones. Some oaky, tarry, tobacco notes come out mid-palate and lead into the long, dry finish. This is a full-bodied wine that can best be described as tannic and delicious. We’ve long sought out red blends from Portugal for their extreme value and this is another seriously good one.
