A Chianti Classico Riserva Bulk Buy from Costco, the Castelli del Grevepesa Clemente VII.
100% Sangiovese from the Chianti Classico zone in Tuscany, Italy. The wine is aged 50% in Slavonian oak barrels for 24 months in and 50% in barriques for 12 months.
The wine has an SRP of $35 and an average wine-searcher price of $20 but we grabbed it at Costco for just $13.99. The wine has lots of big scores too with 93 points from Wine Spectator, 94 points from James Suckling and more. It is imported by Votto Vine Importing.
Giulio de’ Medici – a member of the florentine Medici family – became Pope Clemente VII in 1523 and used to live in Campoli in the Chianti Classico area where today we produce this superb wine.

The 2015 Castelli del Grevepesa Clemente VII Chianti Classico Riserva begins with a pleasing aroma of red and black cherry, strawberry, licorice, mint, vanilla, a touch of leather and more.
Taking a sip reveals that this is one smooth Sangiovese. It features similar flavors to the nose with nice touches of spice and earth. It does need some time to breathe, but it keeps getting better as it does.
The best part; however, is the long, lingering, savory finish. This is excellent!
