We’re huge fans of Tannat and we long ago predicted the Uruguayan version of this big, tannic grape would take off, and while we seemed to be a bit premature in that prediction we’d still be delighted to see it happen.
The 2018 Bodega Garzon Tannat Reserve begins with an enticing, delicious aroma of ripe, dark fruit along with licorice and lots of varied spice notes. Tasting the wine reveals tons of deep, dark fruit flavors. It’s full-bodied and tannic but also very smooth and it gets even better as it has time in the glass. This is right up our alley! Lovely notes of dried herbs float under the fruit and lead into the long, dry, savory finish. Fantastic.
