You really can’t go wrong with this kind of quality at such a low price, the Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Costco.

Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – A $9 No-Brainer

Cabernet Sauvignon from Columbia Valley, Washington. The wine spends 16 months in American and French oak barrels.

The Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is available exclusively at Costco for just $8.99.

One of the nice trends we’ve noticed with the Kirkland Signature offeringss is that they don’t really seem to hide the producers of their wines anymore, like Trader Joe’s still often does. As such, we see right on the back label that this wine is made by Brandon Rice. He is the winemaker for a large custom wine bottling plant owned by Jerry Milbrandt of Milbrandt Vineyards. He previously worked for Goose Ridge Vineyards. All good signs.

From the bottle:

We specifically sought our grapes from the warmest vineyard sites in Washington State as they reached an ideal level of ripeness at harvest to emphasize the rich, ripe black currant characteristics of Cabernet Sauvignon. Sixteen months of barrel aging in American and French oak combined to create greater character, intensity, depth and elegance.

The 2018 Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon begins with an aroma of super ripe dark fruit plus vanilla, spice and a little mint and leather too. Taking a sip reveals a rich and tasty medium-bodied wine chock full of more dark, succulent fruit and vanilla plus loads of cola notes and a little cedar and spice. It ends dry and long.

Compared to previous vintages the 2018 is not quite as balanced and needs a good amount of air at this point but then pulls itself together nicely. It’s still a great value at this low price.
